rocks catch criminals! June 30, 2004 Mr. Ah Ruffell (Belfast, N.Ireland United Kingdom) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
This is an up-dated (and added-to) version of a classic text (Forensic Geology by Murray & Tedrow, 1975) that is now out of print. The current book gives a synposis of geology, many fantastic case studies and some very sound advice, not just for the criminologist, but for those taking samples and conducting enquiries generally. One could say that the book falls between two posts (forensics and geology), but for my part I'd pay the money just for the case studies, let alone the geology. More seriously though, for the crime literature enthusiast or for the geoscience teacher trying to enthuse students and give them a case study outside of mining, hazards or the oil industry, this book will do the job, hence the 5 stars, for these reasons. I showed the text to four people: two lay-persons, a lawyer and a police officer. All four said that elements were very interesting.
